STEM — Hikers have a new trail to explore in southern Granville County.
On Saturday, the Tar River Land Conservancy announced the opening of a 1½-mile hiking trail at the Roberts Chapel Conservation Area near Butner, Creedmoor and Stem.
The new trail represents 18 months of work by the TRLC staff, volunteers and contractors. More than 100 people devoted 1,100 hours of service to build trails, install fences, construct footbridges and remove trash.
“We’ll forever be grateful to everyone who volunteered their time, energy, and expertise to help build this trail,” TRLC Executive Director Derek Halberg said in announcing the opening. “The result is wonderful open space that will be enjoyed by residents and visitors to Granville County for years to come.”
To find the property, enter “792 Roberts Chapel Road, Stem, NC” into a mapping app on a phone, computer or car geographic guidance system.
